COEN BROTHERS "HAIL CAESAR" GETS

FEBRUARY 2016 RELEASE DATE

The film features a strong cast including Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes, and Scarlett Johansson. Joel and Ethan Coen are writing and directing the comedy that follows a single day in the life of a studio "fixer" who is presented with plenty of problems to fix.

"Fixers" in Hollywood circa 1950's worked for major movie studios of the day to protect their stars with internal security squads who managed the squeaky clean images of major talent known as the studios' "assets."

Big stars of the day were under contract for a certain number of pictures so the movie studios had their own go-to guys to "protect" them by deep-sixing scandals, whether they be romantic dalliances, drug use, DUI's, arrests, you name it and the "fixer" would make it go away. In "Hail Caesar" the full impact of the powerful  Hollywood studio "star system" is revealed.

ORSON WELLES' FINAL FILM FINALLY ON ITS WAY TO RELEASE

Orson Welles' "The Other Side of the Wind"--his unfinished final project about an aging director feuding with Hollywood over an ambitious film--is finally on track for release.

The film was shot between 1969 and 1978 and stars the late John Huston as J.J. "Jake" Hannaford, while Peter Bogdanovich plays a young director. The plan is for the film to be ready for screening on May 6th, on what would have been Welles' 100th birthday.

This is just the latest event in a saga marked by legal squabbles, clashing egos, the spiriting away of a working print, and briefly, the disappearance and recovery of the reels after a storage company went bankrupt.

Bogdanovich will be integral to finishing the film, working from  Orson Welles' own notes and unfinished scenes.

HISTORIC RAINBOW ROOM REOPENS
ATOP NYC'S 30 ROCKEFELLER PLAZA

T
he 80-year old establishment--whose floors have been trod by Cole Porter, Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor, Al Pacino, Barbra Streisand, and Muhammad Ali has had a significant makeover.

In its historic perch atop Rockefeller Plaza, the Rainbow Room reopened at the end of October after a five-year absence from the New York City skyline. Having closed due to a tenant-landlord dispute two years ago, the city granted landmark status to the iconic venue on the building's 65th floor.

The makeover restored beloved aspects of the room's d├ęcor such as  brass railings and crystal bollards that were part of the nightclub's original design.

Even the famous rotating dance floor was refurbished. Originally installed in 1934, when workmen replaced outdated technology, they found confetti from the 1940's.

VICUNA SOCKS: AT $700 A PAIR:
ARE YOUR FEET WORTH IT?

Humble socks have long been a holiday gift of choice to male relatives. But now that tradition enters the luxury league as British hosiery brand Falke has launched $700 vicuna socks in time for the festive period.

Handcrafted with fibers as rare as gold dust, the limited edition run is made from the wool of the vicuna, a wild South American camel which lives high in the Andes Mountains.

The animal is protected by law and the wool's rarity is due to the fact that the animals cannot be domesticated. So wool is gathered every three years by catching and shearing the animals before freeing them again.

Which is why the product that finds its way onto the feet of the well-heeled (quite literally) gentleman is such a rarified luxury. This holiday season, the gentleman in your life can put his best foot forward in the softest and most refined way possible.
