Dear Movie Lover,
It's always interesting to learn about multi talents of stars and celebrities.

For example, Jeff Goldblum. Starring in one of this week's features, Rehearsal For Murder along with Robert Preston and Lynn Redgrave, Goldblum is an accomplished jazz pianist and declared that if he didn't act, he would have become a professional musician.

Robert Preston, who co-stars with Goldblum, nearly made a career as an intelligence officer in the US Armed Services before becoming an actor on stage and screen.

Of course, Lynn Redgrave's destiny was cast as a member of the illustrious Redgrave theatrical dynasty. There was never the slightest doubt that Ms. Redgrave would join the "family business."

Rehearsal For Murder is a terrific vehicle for these outstanding talents. The story is centered on the apparent suicide of a playwright's fiancee who also happens to be his leading lady, a famous film actress. It was thought that she took her life after her Broadway debut in one of his plays received mixed reviews.

On the anniversary of her death, the playwright arranges a reunion of cast and crew from that fateful opening night. He asks them to read for parts in his new play, hoping one of them will be revealed as the killer.

Star Turn:

Karl Lagerfeld Goes From Atelier to Director's Chair
"When I took over Chanel, she was a Sleeping Beauty; almost dead, she was snoring."so says Karl Lagerfeld and he has most brilliantly awakened the House of Chanel. But the talent of the white-maned man behind the black sunglasses goes much farther than designing for the most recognizable fashion house on the planet.

As you will see in the groundbreaking feature film Lagerfeld Confidential directed by Rudolphe Marconi, the camera becomes  a personal lens that captures the everyday life of a man who is fashion force, photographer, artist, art collector and visionary.

Even if fashion isn't your forte, viewing Lagerfeld Confidential, will provide a close up of  the man whose name  you  may only recognize in passing.   You will be privy to his personal obsessions; designing in private for the multiple labels of Chanel, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld. You will peer over his shoulder while he works as a photographer. Gain insight into the hyperactive lifestyle of this intellectual insomnaic with a thirst for literature, films and paintings; a lover of Art Deco and modern art. It's Lagerfeld all the way: affectionate and authoritarian; humorous, with a love of laughter.

Lagerfeld Confidential is a must-see and Movie Watch will tell you the date and time.

What is Karl Lagerfeld's current project? A film celebrating the 100th anniversary of Coco Chanel's first boutique in Deaville France. Shot in the beachside town, the A-List cast includes Kiera Knightly, currently the face of the Coco Mademoiselle fragrance. The film will be screened in May  2013 at Chanel's Cruise Collection and is sure to go viral thereafter.

Production Managers:
More Than Just A Credit Line
Movie theaters are often just about empty when film credits roll past the "Production Manager" line.

Few people making their way to the exits know this is a key position that brackets just about every phase of an entire film project. In fact, as soon as a movie gets the green light, the Production Manager goes to work. Side by side with the film's Producer and First Assistant Director, the Production Manager prepares the schedule, budgets, hires crews, makes all travel arrangements and determines required people and supplies for each of the film's locations.

You might say that the Production Manager's office is the engine that drives the entire project. While working in the midst of a highly creative milieu, this role is very business-oriented. Production Managers must have superb planning, organizational and administrative skills. Communications and negotiation abilities are also priorities. As is ingenuity and a finely-tuned sense of diplomacy.

This particular advantage came into play for one Production Manager while she was working on a star-studded multi-location film project.  The schedule called for booking the top male talent into the finest accommodations of a prestigious local hotel.  Unfortunately, the suite that would have been his was already booked by a couple whose wedding was being celebrated in the hotel's ballroom. The bride and groom wouldn't budge despite all the enticements the Production Manager offered.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mega-Star's "people" wanted assurance that the suite in question was definitely his -right down to the availability of a fine-tuned baby grand piano. Undeterred by the pressure, this resourceful Production Manager used her ingenuity to create the impossible; a second top floor suite. She enlisted the aid of the Set Director's team to develop and execute the perfect plan.

First, they convinced the Hotel Manager to designate one of the lobby elevators as "Private." Then, the set designing geniuses went to work on the interior, installing  a new elevator control panel over the existing one. It was set on "express" to travel straight to the new "top floor" private suite. In actuality, this was the next-to- the-top floor suite, identical to the one above in every respect, baby grand piano and all.

The bride and groom enjoyed their wedding weekend. Mega-star got his top floor suite. And the resourceful Production Manager happily crossed the "hotel issue" off her To Do List as a job well done.
